Anyone who visited Bangkok without participating in tourism / travel guides?

I intend to travel from Bangkok, Thailand next May / June 2007. We will stay there for about 3-5 weeks to days. I'll be with my cousins and a brother who is only 11 years. old. Obviously, I would like to know places that are not "family friendly" travel. Besides, we do not plan to visit any beach, because we're staying for a few days only. We''ll also travel without any tour guide revolves around us. Is it good to travel by ourselves? Besides, what transportation would be easy and accessible to reach tourist destinations in Bangkok? Thank you!

If you are staying in Bangkok for only 3-5 days, I suggest that one day or 1 half-day tour can be arranged by most tour desks at any hotel lobby. It probbaly better than try to get you around town itself unknown. Take a full day to go shopping. Even going to the clothing market - bargain of cheap clothing 11 years his elder brother can be so exciting. There are many sightseeing Many of the families. There is much to do in Bangkok is difficult to give a list to visit only 3-5 days. The Grand Palace and the Temple of Emerald Buddha is often the "must see" place for visitors. It would be totally "exotic" for the brother 11 years old you. large shopping centers like MBK and Siam Paragon would be worth a visit for all of you. The aquarium at Siam Paragon is good. Sit and eat while watching beautiful mini fish aquarium in the center of the table where the food court on the ground floor at Siam Paragon. A snake show later in the Memorial Institute is excellent Saovabha (and the show is in both English and Thai) BKK Travel by taxi is best measured. ALWAYS and I stress - always get the taxi to bring the meter. NO meters - not introduce in the taxi. No desinations negotiate a price. Usually you can tell the staff at the hotel where they go and wave a taxi for you. Invest in a copy of Lonely Planet "What Best of Bangkok "- You'll be glad you did. I hope this helps
