Is it safe to carry a good camera to Italy?

I am 16 years old, and is in 11th grade in the fall. I'm going with my school in Italy, Spain and Southern France in March 2010. I'm very excited, although I have been in Italy and France before. I love photography and am planning to buy a good camera (possibly a Canon Rebel) very soon, with a wad of money I've saved for a long time. I would like to take this camera to Italy to get nice pictures of the scenes, as well as me and my friends. You think it's safe to put it there? Should we worry that it is stolen or lost? We are traveling as a school group (around 40 children), and let's go with a travel agency and a Company Tour / director / guide for the whole trip. Is it practical to bring this camera? Or should I take my little digital one? Thank you!

You seem a bit confusing ... let me think ... lose? Oh, yes I think you can find objects lost everywhere so it would be possible to be lost in Italy as well .... stolen? Only if you meet Clint Eastwood in his horse during a session .... seriously are you serious? You know what Italy is a nation .... you know that in Europe, drive cars, we have houses and roads, have jobs, shops (if you sell the type of camera, so here we are ... shocking how "forward" arent we? ..) and offices and even the Internet ... where do you think going? In the jungle? Give me a break darling, but you all Americans are educated there? Families say that the way to behave? You are here doing a statement totally stupid and idiotic, insulting an entire country with your reply, it sounds so nasty, rude, racist and not even realize? I mean all of you who are rude there? Do you really think this place is full of criminals or what? Thank God Italy is still one of the safest place in most of this planet, in fact, far more secure than yours to begin with ... shame on you and your rudeness! By the way is safe if it comes to us or van to kill me in one of those terrible mass murder that happens raced there? Do I have to be afraid or I will be alive at the end of the trip? Well, thank God is not !!... so do not be ridiculous Saing the question was "normal" .. ahh over the fact that there havent got pickpockets in points "tourists" I have many doubts about this .. actually get real charm ... once again are very rude and is offending an entire nation and the sad thing is that you do not realize this! Once again the place is much safer than yours and not crowded who are there just to steal things from you!
