turkey earthquake 1999

turkey earthquake 1999
how do i make a model for an earthquake?

im doing a science project on the earthquake that happened in Izmit(it's a city in Turkey) in 1999.
we need to show a WORKING model for the earthquake. how can i make/show one??

please no stupid answers.

I don't know how complex the model needs to be or if it even needs to be tangible but the simplest thing that came to mind is two wood blocks representing both sides of the fault. They labeling of the blocks would be determined by how large an area that is being shown. They could easily be connected at the bottom with tongue and groove joint that would allow them to slide laterally.

If you wanted to do it through the computer. Autodesk Inventor allows you to model shapes and subsequently make movies. This approach would probably take significantly more time but the results could be thrown into a PowerPoint presentation. This is not the only program that is capable of producing such an effect; it's just the first that came to mind.

The link provides info on how to make faults out of paper.
